Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob
It's frustrating to get into your car at the end of a long, hard day and discover that your key fob is dead. Fortunately, it is an easy fix using an easy battery replacement at the hardware store or big box retailer.
A spare key fob to your Mazda 3 can be an affordable way to keep yourself from having to be towed to the dealership and having them reprogram your keys.
Battery Replacement
Changing the battery in your Mazda 3 key fob is an easy procedure that you can perform at home. However, you should only replace the battery if it dies, or if the key fob displays a message in the multi-information display stating, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."
To open the key fob's case it requires a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver and some patience. Locate a notch or gap in the bottom portion of the metal of the Mazda 3's key fob, and then insert the tip of the screwdriver in it to pry off the lower part. Repeat the process for the top piece of metal but be careful not to scratch the rubber ring that is on the bottom of the case.
Once the fob case has been open, you'll find the slot on either side of the case, which houses the battery. Start on one side of the case and gently push it open. Take out the old CR2025 and replace it with a brand new one, making sure to place it face-up to ensure the correct the polarity. Finally, put the cap on the battery and reattach both sides to the key fob's case. Continue pressing until you can hear them click.
After replacing the battery After replacing the battery, lock and unlock your doors to ensure whether the fob works. If everything seems to be in good order you're good to go. Mazda 3 remote features can be used again.
Pairing Issues
This could be a sign that the transmitter in your car may have been damaged. It is usually a job for a professional and you will require a new key fob.
If you've attempted to replace the battery and reprogram the key fob but it hasn't worked then the chip in the key fob may be defective. This can happen when the key fob was dropped on hard surfaces or exposed to saltwater or even touched by dirty hands.
You'll need to find a small "key", which is inserted into the seam, to remove the circuit board and identify the issue. You will then be able to check for any damage or corrosion on the chip. It is recommended to use a clean, dry paper towel to keep the microchip from being damaged.
It is also possible to inspect the battery connector's terminals and determine if they're damaged or cracked. If mazda key cut is the case, then carefully soldering them back in place can usually restore the function of the key fob. You can also check the buttons for wear or damage. If the buttons are loose, they can easily be soldered back regardless of whether a button has physically snapped off.
Interference Signals

This could be due to things like weather conditions, buildings, and transmitters operating on the same frequency. Interference can also occur when you have equipment from an aftermarket manufacturer installed in your vehicle that transmits on the same frequency as the key fob.
Additionally, if the key fob is exposed to salt or water waters, it could be damaged. The water can penetrate the rubber seals of the electronic chip especially when the key fob has been submerged in water for an extended time. The chip may stop working and may require replacement of the keyfob. If you have a key which can be programmed, you can clean it using electronic cleaners or isopropyl to restore its function. If this doesn't help will be able to fix the issue, then the chip has burned out and must be replaced.
Locking/unlocking the Doors
The buttons on the fob's key send electronic signals to the solenoid in the car, which then converts the signal into mechanical action. This locks and unlocks doors. If the door lock isn't working, it could be a solenoid malfunction that requires analysis with the help of an expert repair shop for autos.
A dead 12 volt could also hinder the fob from functioning properly. This happens when the battery loses charge or if the contactors become corroded, and stop transferring electricity. The good news is that a new battery is able to fix this problem in just minutes.
The receiver module could be the cause if the key fob does not function after you replace the battery or re-program the device. This device interprets radio frequency signals sent by the key fob to control the vehicle. It can be expensive to repair if the device becomes defective.
To check whether this is the case, start by inserting your spare key into the key slot and turning the ignition to ON. Press the key fob button three times within 10 seconds without removing it. The Mazda 3 system will now connect the key to the car and allow you to use it as your primary remote for driving. You can program up to three keys this manner.
